Hiya!
This is cool, ain't it? It's all rather exciting! My name is Alicia, I'm 18 years old and just love The Boomtown Rats (hence why I'm here aha)
I've been a fan for a couple of years and have tried my damnedest to get my friends to listen to the band, with varying levels of success I should add. I now have a place I can enthuse about them without being told to shut up which is lovely.
To get some interactions going on here, I'll ask some questions:
Favourite Album?
Favourite Song?
Have you ever been one of their gigs?
Are you going to the upcoming tour?
My favourite album is The Fine Art of Surfacing, but my favourite song is most definitely Drag Me Down. I've never been to one of their shows before (I'm a wee bit young to have seen them when they first started out aha) and I'm really excited to see them next month! It's going to be amazing!!

Hi Alicia! I'm so glad to see a teen here! :) Favourite Album? right now it's the latest!
Favourite Song? right now it's Back to Boomtown
Have you ever been one of their gigs? no - I'm in TX but I need to travel to see them after this pandemic is over!!
I admit that Back to Boomtown almost brings me tears because I'm so happy to have this album and to have them back. <3
Hello Alicia - as an ancient BoomTowner my fave album is Tonic For the Troops. I loved those guys fron the day I saw them on Top Of The Pops when Bob ripped up a picture of Travola and Olivia Neutron Bomb having knocked them off the uk no 1 in Nov 1978 with Rat Trap.. I was 12 and very into Punk much to my parents bewilderment.. The my friend got the Tonic Album amd I fell in love with the whole thing. Recentry taught myself to play the into to “I don’t like Mondays“ which is fantaastic (1979) and I still have my original vinyl copy.
Nice to see you TankTopTerrorist. Come up and say hello at a gig
Welcome it's so nice too see younger rats fans! I'm only 26 myself I've been to a few gigs in recent years, the older fans at gigs have always welcomed me often joking saying stuff like "where are your parents" and testing my knowledge. Your gonna love seeing them live they put on a great show! I'm hoping to catch them in York this year.
hellooo!
I'm pretty new to following the rats too (I'm 20), but they're one of my all time favourite bands now!
id have to say the fine art of surfacing is my favourite rats album -- it sounds amazing on vinyl, and my favourite song is someone's looking at you!
I haven't seen them live and unfortunately I'm not able to make any of the tour dates this year so I'm hoping they add some more / or tour next year !! v jealous of everyone seeing them 😔😔
Hi! For me, I'd say A Tonic for The Troops is my favourite album, although lately I've been taking a liking to V Deep and In The Long Grass. My favourite song would probably be a tie between House on Fire and Mary of the 4th Form. I also really like the John Peel session ver. of Neon Heart (which I highly suggest listening to if you haven't!)
I'm a bit too young to have seen them in the past (I'm 18, too!) and unless they come to the United States, I probably won't see them.
Hello! You can call me Fitz. I'm 22 years old.
My favorite album is either Tonic or In The Long Grass. My favorite song right now is probably "An Icicle In The Sun", "Up Or Down" or "The Elephant's Graveyard". It switches up a lot.
Sadly, to the last two, I am an American and won't be able to attend any of their shows. Here's to hoping they come out here and bless this shit country with their rat... Magic? Unsure of the words I wanted to put there, haha!
Hi @Alicia - Welcome!! Favourite album is The Fine Art of Surfing.. Favourite song is Diamond Smiles.. My first show was 40 years ago.. Chicago, March of 1980... In a few short weeks I’ll be attending the Glasgow gig..
Favourite i think was the first because it had such an impact. A lifetime of following the BTR/Geldof/BTR. Oxford 1978...see post in Memorable gigs.
