As we approach the final Bank Holiday weekend of the summer with a dry weather forecast for the UK, why not share a ‘ postcard’ with fellow CoB. As autumn will soon be upon us, how will you be enjoying the the closing weeks of this summer? CoBs from around the globe, share with us!
To start things off………………
Dear CoB, I find myself working away from home for a short while. Enjoying my first experience of Africa and the challenges that brings. Thanks for your support to CoB and we hope you enjoy our plans for September.
P.S. In trying to do things slightly different I’ve gone, as HH once said, out of my comfort zone! I hope you can enjoy the chat and ignore my clunky handover and technical ineptitude. It was fun and I really enjoyed doing it with a wonderful guest…..but BBC 5Live are unlikely to come calling😂😂. All will become clear in the next couple of weeks🤞👍
Where today?? 😁
The Man At The Top!
Caldera Blanca, Lanzarote. Fantastic 12 Kms walk
And if you have five seconds to spare…..
here’s some postcards from Dublin. at this point, i’ve been living here for over a month. i really miss Kyiv and Ukraine in general. but i have to admit that Dublin is an amazing city, and settling in here has been easier than i thought!
most of these were taken near my college campus. lately i’ve been so busy with work that i barely manage to go anywhere at all! but it’s always nice to go to town and have a pint or two to unwind with my friends.
Brekkie with The Legend ☘️💔☘️ Shrewsbury.. Deja Brew Coffee House A sweet memory I’ll cherish..
The Three Graces
Over the last few months, those of you unlucky enough to be within hearing range have probably got sick of me moaning about how I couldn’t post anything new on Here’s a Postcard, because I hadn’t been anywhere….
But it struck me today that I didn’t really need to go anywhere….here’s a postcard from the Pier Head in Liverpool, taken earlier this summer, with the Three Graces that line the waterfront.
From right to left, we have the Port of Liverpool Building, the Cunard Building and the Liver Building with the two famous Liver Birds.
The Liver Birds are known locally as Bella and Bertie. Bella looks out to sea – awaiting the return of her loved one. Bertie’s looking inland, to see if the pub’s open.
One of these days I'll get the chance to travel somewhere and can send a postcard to you you all 🤞🤞🐀🎸
And I have just met my son and girlfriend in Alcañiz Spain!! Hoping to find a bar to watch El Classico tomorrow!!
Postcard Perfect Shrewsbury, UK..
I traveled here last year, for the first time, in 2021 - my first trip abroad, as well.. I fell in love with this town.. I hope to move here one day..
This town has everything I could ever need or want. A castle, a river, a haunted prison, a park, a flower garden, churches, pubs - even a pub that once a Church! Various restaurants, eatery’s, a theatre, a train - I wouldn't even need a car and being from America, it’s best I don’t drive anyway LOL
And this town has THE best coffee house - Deja Brew!! The Brie, cranberry, and bacon sandwich is to die for! As well as their milkshakes and homemade cakes.. It’s owned by someone most of us know, Ian Westwood!! Should you decide to go an adventure, please visit.. You won’t be disappointed.. Promise!
(I had the pleasure of having a little brekkie with a Rat during my visit)
💚🐭💚
Here’s a postcard from Illinois…
The body of water is called Rat Creek and runs behind my home.. The Towne decided to tear down all the trees that were here, which happened at the start of Summer, and to say I was pissed at that time is an understatement - I was livid! We have/had so many creatures back there but seeing how it’s coming along, I‘m coming around.. The creek is still redirected at the moment, as they continue work, but when it rains it flows nicely..
💚🐁💚
Having first seen Protex supporting theRats in 1980, I ventured down to North London tonight to see a rare appearance in the capital. They we’re excellent and included some songs from their new album, Wicked Ways. Great fun.
Don’t Ring Me Up went down a storm……if only……………….
here’s a postcard…
i’ve been to Krakow before, back in July. it’s still an incredible city.
Just returned from Ibiza, to celebrate my girlfriend‘s wedding anniversary. In London, chilling this weekend as I have spent the last week with family and friends. Have a fun weekend everyone.
I am looking forward to hearing more about your adventure.
Looking forward to my first gig in the US tonight ( a surprise gift from my son!). Def Leppard in Indianapolis in about 3 hours time. Big fan of DL during their prime. More to follow….hopefully! Let’s Get Rocked!
here’s some postcards from.. well, all over the place. not strictly rats-related, i just felt the need to post some pictures.
the wall of fame in Dublin, featuring my denim vest i finished not too long before my journey.
the Irish museum of emigration. my mum said that taking this was important.
suddenly, this is from Berlin! taken just today. i’d get another picture from Warsaw but i’ve been there for only a day.
it feels nice to travel again cos the last time i left the country was in january. has anyone else been to Dubai? it’s a hard no from me.
Its been a while since someone sent a postcard, so here is one from near to where I have been staying this weekend, home of The Boomtown Rats, Dun Laoghaire.
Yesterday i was chatting with a lovely lady called Irene, whose husband was in the same class as Johnnie Fingers! The glorious weather has made it a very enjoyable weekend, just a shame that Paul (Ukraine) and I have not been able to coordinate our plans and are not now meeting up. I hope Paul may share a couple of photos from his holiday here in Ireland.
As with any trip to Dublin I found myself in a music bar, that was strangely quiet when we first arrived. Any requests they asked. ”Well”, I replied, “since you asked!”…….
.
Hope he's OK 🤞🤞🐀🎸
