"And the next thing was, how do you make a band exciting? How does it possibly sound like what you are, what you want to be?"
These are some of the questions Bob Geldof was pondering leading up to that Halloween night in 1975 when he changed the Nightlife Thugs' name to the Boomtown Rats, one of those names that commands attention before the band bearing it has played even a single note. Commanding. Definitive. Claiming the ground on which they stand. On that night, the newly born Boomtown Rats stood on the ground of Dublin's Bolton Street College of Technology. At the moment, Ireland wasn't the first country that came to mind when thinking of where the great rock 'n' roll bands came from but we were all standing on the eve of a very big change. And it all began here on this night... October 31st, 1975... with a simple stroll up to the blackboard bearing the Nightlife Thugs' name, Bob Geldof, with an eraser in one hand and a piece of pure white chalk in the other... strokes on a blackboard that would change the face of Rock 'n' Roll History forever.
