Bob Geldof & Midge Ure didn't know if anyone would show up that morning but, hopeful, they stood waiting, the rising Sunday morning sun dappling the sidewalk in front of Trevor Horn's very unassuming~looking Sarm West Studios. Some would need to come from far away, Duran Duran & Spandau Ballet having been in Germany the night before. Some would need to be surrendering precious, hard~earned time off....It would be understandable if some who had been asked couldn't make it but everyone had said "Yes!", sometimes almost before Bob Geldof had even finished asking the question. And now, here it was, very early in the morning on Sunday, November 25th, 1984, and as Bob and his longtime friend, Midge, looked up through their own sleepy eyes, one~by~one, they came...Sting from around the corner, carrying the Sunday paper which had just arrived on his steps, Bananarama, having chosen extra sleep over makeup, Nick Rhodes, on the other hand, fresh from having stepped into the Gentlemen's room at Heathrow to put makeup on before arriving! Everyone there fully as who they are...many different looks & styles would fill that tiny recording studio that day but there was one common very strongly shared bond amongst them all ~ to help to bring food to those who needed it in Africa. That tiny room filled with Love (Boy George said that being there was like Christmas, itself) changed so many lives that day, most importantly, in Africa, of course, but it also changed individual lives all over the world very significantly, mine included. I've seen others write on the pages of this website how strongly "Do They Know It's Christmas?" impacted their lives, too. For me, personally, that late November morning when I first heard it, sent up a surging feeling from deep inside of me that made me feel "Everything is about to change!" And it did. Thank God, for people in Ethiopia ~ that's the very most important thing of all, of course, and the Band Aid Trust continues to bring food to where it's needed in Africa. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" began making individual changes in people's lives that morning, too, though. Some of those stories may remain very personal & some will become big enough to be known by the world. It was and is impossible not to be so incredibly inspired by what happened in that room that morning (and through the night!) and the feeling that it gave to you & to make it a part of you. That's what happened and happens every year at Christmas for me and I know the same is true for so many people here ~ I've seen mention of it just this past week! That's the kind of spirit I like to bring into my own life and the world every day & the spirit I will work every day, along with you, to fill Boomtown with, if you will elect me its Mayor! Please read my Mayoral manifesto here https://www.citizensofboomtown.com/boomtown/mayoral-elections-2023/jennifer-danielle-london-s-manifesto and please give me the honor of your vote to be Mayor of Boomtown, 2023-2024! Thank you! Love, Jennifer Danielle London, Mayoral Candidate for the City of Boomtown #BandAid
