I choose XTC but did struggle to pick the best album as they have so many in my head but it’s the English Settlement as that’s the LP I just could not stop playing in 1982
As a band they stopped playing live in 1982 but explained all the effort would go into every album as it was the only way to keep what fans they have on board ( I believe they did )
They have two singer / songwriters which made the albums more interesting and much better
90% is Andy Partridge and the ironic thing is Plans for Nigel is what most people remember from XTC and it was Colin Moulding at his best (Different Album though)
I have always been driven by the lyrics so hard to beat XTC and they have covered so many topics it’s what makes them special to myself
English Settlement
This was their 5th Album and iwas a double album and got Andy highest chart position with Senses Working Overtime , the last hit they managed.
Some on my favourite’s songs
No Thugs in our House
Melt the Guns
All of a sudden, it’s too late
Snowman
And Colin’s input
Runaways
Ball & Chain
Fly on a wall
English Roundabout
I have gone too far already just give it a listen and hope you get something from XTC as I do.
we would be delighted to receive some other recommendations for future posts....please do message me.
seeing this exchange has prompted me to listen to this album again, great suggestion! Anyone seen the brilliant documentary on the band 'This is Pop' (2017)? a brilliant insight into the band.
Colin's written the brilliant Life Begins at the Hop, and The Vanishing Girl and also Wake Up.
