We all know Johnny Turnbull as the talented lead guitarist and vocalist from
Bob Geldof's solo Band The Bobkats. He is also a member of The Blockheads
and World Party.
I have always thought Johnny has a really great voice and can
comfortably sing many genres. In 2012 he released his first and only solo
Album so far, Quantum Frolics. I love the colourful, jazzy cover and there is a cute
pic on the back of him as a child playing guitar and singing. All 12 songs were
written by Johnny, except for my
favourite track, Sweet Mary, co-written by Chaz Jankell. Also playing on this
Album is another of The Bobkatz, Bob Loveday on Violin and tin whistle.
Johnny also performes on Guitars, Ukes, Keyboards, Bass, Drums and
Harmonica. I know he worked hard on this , assisted by close friends Chaz
Jankell, Mitt Gamon and Karl Wallinger to name a few.
In his own unique style the tracks vary from Blues, to C &W, Ballads, Novelty,
Folk. I really love the strong instrumentals throughout the Album. Guitars very
much to the fore as you would expect. There are very clever lyrics and they
make you smile, especially on The Gods Are Laughing, a song about Noah's Ark.
I have known Johnny for quite a few years now. He is a lovely guy and great
fun.

Thanks to Irene for this wonderful recommendation. And also to everyone else who has posted over the past year, your contributions were very much appreciated.
I bought this one at the time not really knowing what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised how good it is. Not had an airing for a little while so thanks for the reminder.
Brilliant album I play often.
