I stumbled across this recent post from Johnnie Fingers this morning.
Although on YouTube some people are claiming this was a song written by Prince, the lyrics and credits means I have found the correct version! Credited with 12 co-songwriters, that must have been interesting!
Enjoy
I should be a music lawyer 😁
I've been listening lately to a brilliant live version of Sleep from Chicago March 1980. While reading comments on the regular studio version I noticed lots of comments about how Kayne West had used a sample from Sleep for his song calledJail, of course originally composed by John Moylett (the legendary Johnnie Fingers of The Boomtown Rats). It's about 2.45 minutes in, lyrics part is 'I wanna go...oo..oo' etc. Not sure how Kayne West actually came across this song but my attitude is take it as a form of flattery rather than a steal. Maybe some Kayne West fans have checked out The Fine Art of Surfacing. Hopefully Johnnie will get some sort of royalty payment and who knows if other Rats samples will turn up in modern music?
