Two years ago Aidan from Protex was the first artist who agreed to a chat when I first became Mayor. I'd seen the band support the Rats at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1980 and loved their first 4 singles, non of which troubled the Top 40!
43 years on, I got to see them again in Madrid last night playing the Wurlitzer Ballroom. Having just played a short tour in and around New York, the band were tight and on fire. 'I Can't Cope' and 'Don't Ring Me Up' generated a 'mosh pit' ( I think that's what these young people call it🤣😉👍) and you could feel this energy transferring to the band.
It was a gig that took me back to my youth (some journey these days!) and why I continue to love live music.
The band released a fine album last year called 'Wicked Ways' and their back catalogue is now on Spotify.
And as always, Aidan is happy to catch up. A true gent.
"The maturity of a teenager" is having passion & Belief in Life and that Anything Is Possible in every moment in Time, which it is. ✨ And your body COMPLETELY agrees! That's why it went to the show! And I LOVE "Can't Figure You Out"! Thanks to the fire 🔥 that didn't actually happen in Madrid this morning, that's how I got to start my day! Thank you, Nick! ⭐
I'm a musical encyclopedia but I've never heard of Protex. In fact, I thought this was going to be a "Reporting Live From The Field" piece when I clicked on it! I genuinely thought, "Oh, no! I hope no one's hurt!" I'm going to check them out! Great pictures!
There are only two things wrong with this piece: "what these young people call it" & "took me back to my youth". Is it not your youth? I recently read something credible that said everyone alive now can expect to live to 180 because of how it's so much easier to eat healthier than it was in the past, people are more conscious of walking a lot, and rapidly happening medical advances. So you're barely a teenager! We all are! By the time we're 180, it will be even EASIER to eat better & there will be even GREATER medical advances, so we STILL get more years! See you there!
