Twenty years ago today I was at work at The Social Sciences dept at University of Oxford in my office. A colleague came hurtling down the stairs from the office upstairs ‘there’s been a bomb in New York’. I immediately called up the internet and saw the initial videos of smoke billowing from the Twin Towers at the World Trade Centre and the news reporting a couple of explosions. Beyond shocking.
By the time I arrived home and turned on the evening news it had emerged planes had been hijacked and flown directly into the two buildings and at the Pentagon. I could see the horror and enormity of the attack and recall seeing all the people running from the scene. I had a sense that the world had changed that day forever.
Twenty years later we have the catastrophe we have today in Afghanistan. Full circle, it seems.
My thoughts are with all those affected by terrorism in the world, and those involved in the rescue mission.
2 lighten the mood , can we vote on which songs we'd like d lads 2 perform wen they appear on d late late show 2 celebrate bobs birthday...🤔let democracy win out.
Agree, I love radio. It so often captures more than just watching it on TV
I was driving a van listening 2 the Joe Duffy show on RTE 1. wen d news broke....it was,. Unbelievable, I tink listening 2 it on radio made it even more terrifying b coz of d lack of visuals... it was a brilliant piece of broadcasting by Joe...he really captured d mood. I guess dats how powerful radio can b..
I can't even imagine what people who were at the scent went through that day. Just like I can't even imagine what the people in Afghan are going through right now 😔💔
