This album is a little gem…there were three singles taken from this and Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover is probably the best known.
For me, none of the tracks really stand out by themselves but play the entire album and it has a warmth and consistency to it that I really like.
Probably not to everyone’s taste but it’s a record I find myself reaching for regularly.
Hope you enjoy it
I literally cannot believe you've written about Sophie B. Hawkins! I LOVE Sophie B. Hawkins and have since the release of "Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover!" because... right there! She writes & sings it just like it is! Her cover of Bob Dylan's "I Want You" is amazing! I know exactly what you mean about the feeling of the entirety of this album. The album that really got me hooked into her music is the one that came after this, though, "Whaler", and then "Timbre" which followed it is just as amazing! "Right Beside You", " Did We Not Choose Each Other? ", & " As I Lay Me Down" from " Whaler" are stunning & beautiful and "Strange Thing", " No Connection", " I Walk Alone", and" Lose Your Way" from "Timbre"... just coming right out and saying it ~ the same reason I love the Rats. Her latest single " Love Yourself " has a nice warm feeling to it. My sister & I were lucky to meet her in April of 2004 when she played " Concerts In The Park" at Centennial Park here in Nashville ~ she signed for everyone afterwards & was really nice. It was amazing to hear so many of the above songs come alive. Sophie B. Hawkins has an incredible gift with words & is one of the very rare "completely telling it like she feels it with nothing held back" artists that we have. The artists I love the very, very most are all like that ~ like I said above, this is the reason I love the Rats so much. There are so many different kinds of artists & songs to love and I love the whole gamut (you know, like I really love the Archies' "Sugar Sugar" & my beloved "Monster Mash") but people who go right to the heart and hold nothing back, I will love passionately for life.
