As I said in the Album Club post, the chat with Micky went on a lot longer than planned. It was an extremely enjoyable 15 mintes and I hope you enjoy it too.
In this clip Micky talks about their latest release Dig What You Need, which coincidentally Trash Glam Baby recommended in a recent Something For the Weekend post.
(not my best look!)
And in the final clip, Micky chats about meeting Bob when he hosted the TV show, All Right Now (1980). And in a world of sex, drugs and Rock n Roll, how the Boomtown Rats demanded Cornflakes!
Below is the clip of Bob and The Undertones from the show All Right Now.
And Micky's book that I referred to is............
And finally, my sincere thanks to Micky for doing this. There was no reason why he should respond to an email from The Mayor of Boomtowm (which I actually put......with an explanation!), but he was a wonderful person to speak to and great fun. I for one, can't wait to see then live this coming summer and autumn.
And for anyone who wonders what we are going on about…………again………..
Excellent chat Mayor Parky. Was thinking about Mars Bars at start of interview and lo and behold it got discussed. B side of Jimmy Jimmy iirc.
I was lucky enough to get Teenage Kicks on the original Good Vibrations label, well after the event obviously, possibly around 1980. Maybe foolishly I cashed in a few years back but got over £100 even then. If I had to pick one song I would probably choose following from a superb back catalogue (although admittedly my knowledge stops as at about 40 years ago). Not sure it would top a fan poll but I love it….
The Undertones never made it into the Dutch charts. I've only heard of them through watching British music programmes about the 70s / 80s punk scene. Great band though!
Great chat, I loved that last part about their stay in Hilversum. "The Rats love their cornflakes" 🤣
Great interview. I saw them a few years ago at the Electric Picnic in Ireland and they killed it. Hope our paths cross again. Without doubt one of Ireland's best bands.....................well maybe second best.
Great interview! Really enjoyed this thanks for sharing!
We have a chat to post with the lovely Joke from The Netherlands. Thanks for the comment.
Well done again Mr. Mayor. Another splendid piece. Enjoyed it....who's next on your list?
