I
It’s mostly been a good day. I made some great food, did more university coursework, picked up some humanitarian aid and edited a video I’ve been working on. However I got a bit sad after I found some old pictures of how life was before the invasion began. I posted them on my Instagram. It makes me sad that before all of this began, I thought I was an unhappy person. I was and still am struggling with pretty severe depression. But right now I can clearly see that my life was pretty great before it all got destroyed by putin. I’m attaching a few for other citizens to see.
On a much darker note, everyone around is worried about the 9th of May and what’s going to happen next. russia coined this day as THEIR day of victory over nazism. On this so-called “holiday” they always organise huge military parades. They dress little kids in soldier uniforms and show off their military vehicles, while screaming about how proud they are to have defeated the nazis themselves during WW2 (obviously forgetting that it’s not just their achievement) and how they’d be happy to do it again. It’s kind of a dick-measuring contest with neighbouring countries, except we literally don’t care about what russia has to show. However this year everyone’s scared that russia will do something terrible to my country. Because they really are getting desperate since this little “special military operation” of theirs is wearing their army out and also economically destroying their country. So they’re getting more confident in threatening us and the rest of the world with nuclear arms. And some people are saying they might nuke Kyiv just to celebrate their “victory over nazism in Ukraine”. Or maybe it’ll be worse. If you remember, one of putin’s goals is to “denazify” Ukraine. It terrifies me. And no one truly had the authentic Ukrainian experience until they had to sit down with their family for a talk about what they are going to do if russia uses nuclear weapons on our country. And if that is what’s going to happen, well… Blatantly speaking, we are fucked. It makes me really sad that us Ukrainians have to even think about this. And the world just stands by and watches, carefully tiptoeing over putin’s feelings because everyone is so scared of this hypocrite waving around his nukes like it’s a baby rattle. It’s so frustrating.
Anyway… I found out that apparently a few cinemas have been opened up here in Chernivtsi, so I might pop in tomorrow to see what’s showing right now. Cinemas have always been kind of a safe haven for me. It’s been months since I last properly saw a film like that. So I think going to one will be a great distraction from what’s happening at the moment.
I also think this is a good opportunity to ask other citizens about what films they like, since I’m all about that. :)

You're very welcome, Paul! Three of my favorite things in life are cocoa, winter, & holiday spirit ☕❄️☃️, so I'm going to have to look Sofia Square up online! Sofia Square is such a pretty name! I hope it's remained intact as you know it but if it hasn't, I know it can be rebuilt and that you'll have years of happy Christmas celebrations ahead of you there! ✨🎄✨ Thank you so much for saying how cute Elfie & Geldof are! They're also hilariously funny! :) Tiny little Elfie has a very husky seal bark & Geldof loves this purple pair of flats that I have & attacks them like they're prey, shakes his head, growls, & tosses them in the air! :) We're sending wishes for happiness your way! ~ 🌻🇺🇦🌻 Jennifer, Elfie, & Geldof 🌻🇺🇦🌻
Hello, Paul ~ Wherever it is that you're standing with all of the lights up above you is BEAUTIFUL! I read what you wrote & I just want to say please don't feel sad over stretches of time you spent feeling sad in the past ~ you were just simply honestly feeling what you were feeling at the time. I'm a big believer in letting yourself feel whatever you're genuinely feeling ~ that way you stay 100% in touch with who you really are & when happy times come (and they do come back around) you'll feel those fully, too.
I hope you had a good time at the cinema ~ I'm certain you'll be a great director yourself one day ~ you're very expressive in your writing.
My Chihuahua, Elfie, my Pomeranian, Geldof (he's an old~school Pomeranian ~ they can grow to be 18 lbs., which he is!), and I want to send some sunshine your way! I'm thinking about you, hoping you & your family are safe, and that happier days are around a corner that's closer than it seems right now. You, your family, and everyone in Ukraine deserve every kind of happiness that's possible when this pointless war comes to an end. We're sending wishes of Joy & Peace to you! 🌻🇺🇦🌻 Jennifer, Elfie, & Geldof 🌻🇺🇦🌻
I avoided watching Titanic for years because of all the hype. Last weekend I decided it was time I relented and quite enjoyed it. Rather corny in parts, but aren’t all that sort of film?
Kilns……we’ll I’m no buff and so quite mainstream. I’m a big Tom Hanks and Guy Ritchie fan. My guilty pleasure is……..well that’s for another day!
The world will be watching and waiting tomorrow. Let’s hope it’s limited to more grandiose propaganda, I think for now that’s the best result we can hope for.
Your updates make disturbingly interesting reading Paul. I'm sure I'm not the only citizen who anticipates the day when Putin is sent packing back to the Kremlin with his tail between his legs and, the rebuilding of your great country commences. Wishing you a great experience at the cinema. Always in our thoughts ❤
Will be thinking of you tomorrow and watching the news for updates. I hope nothing much happens.
war must well and truly put things into perspective.
