I don’t have anything that interesting to say today. My heart still aches whenever I hear more about what happened in Bucha and other towns. I sincerely hope everyone who contributed to this gets punished extremely hard.
My University classes just keep dragging on and I’m already tired. We’re not obligated to attend as long as we do our assignments. I guess I’ll prioritise my well-being for now.
My father just got back from Lviv and he’s going back to Kyiv in a couple of days. I’m kind of jealous because I want to go home too… But I know that it still might be dangerous, I heard that my living area is scattered with landmines (there’s a forest nearby). So yeah, best to wait it out for now.
I also listened to the speech our president gave that aired during the Grammys last night. I don’t care about award season that much, but that speech in particular was powerful.
"Our musicians wear body armors instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded in hospitals. Even to those who can't hear them. But the music will break through anyway. We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound … Fill the silence with your music. Fill it today to tell our story. Tell the truth about this war on your social networks, on TV. Support us, in any way you can. Any - but not silence. And then peace will come."
It struck me particularly hard. A lot of people from abroad who I thought were my friends chose silence and inaction. (Same goes for musicians and other stars I respected.) I’m doing my best over here to keep others informed, I volunteer almost daily, I donate… And these people didn’t do anything to reach out or help at all. I realised that they don’t deserve a place in my life. (That’s how I’ve had my break with that friend of mine who I planned to see the Rats with.) But while I lost trust in some people, many others turned up with kindness, help and support, like you and everyone else in Boomtown. And I’m very grateful to have that.
Unrelated, bur I heard that the 4th of April is apparently world rat day! So accept my congratulations to you and the rest of the band. :D
I hope everything is going well over there. I’m very much looking forward to hearing from you & seeing photographs from your upcoming gig.
All the best,
Paul
