De De’s post yesterday on Lizzie Borden made me think about a question I’ve been wrestling with for years – whether I believe in ghosts?
I think I do believe – or at least I want to believe – let’s face it, enough people have had a spooky encounter or have lived through strange events, so there’s a mountain of evidence.
So, I’ve watched Most Haunted, putting together a short list of the most likely placed to see something frightening. On family holidays, we’ve gone out of our way to visit supposed haunted places, hoping to be chased by the ghosties or grabbed by the ghoulies ….. but nothing!!!
So come on Citizens of Boomtown – share your ghost stories and weird experiences. Convince me that ghosts exist.
My wife (Irish catholic background) always prays to St Anthony when something goes missing - usually it turns up......picking up Suss's comment about getting frightened shitless at a young age (before I even knew the word "Shit") I'm going to put another post in here about a very spooky place indeed!!
Ah… Ghosts.. Spirits.. Ever since I could speak, I’ve believed in them..
As an adult, I had visited one of the most haunted cities in America - New Orleans.. My first experience - much like that of Fall River - was something I won’t soon forget. Get yourself a cuppa and I’ll tell you about it.. Okay, here we go..,
My (now ex) husband and I came for holiday and while waiting for the street car, I took some beads from a tree.. We weren’t there more than a few hours before I realized that I lost my wallet - my ID, credit card, ATM card, and money!
Funds for the trip were very limited due to this mishap but luckily we had booked some tours before hand so it wasn't a complete bust.. One of the tours we took was to St Louis cemetery which brought us to the grave of Marie Laveau - the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans..
The guide told of us a small ritual that can be performed to ask for assistance when in need.. Of course I did this when the group had moved on a bit and I requested assistance with the return of my wallet..
A day or two later, I thought of those beads I snatched from the tree.. I took them with me as we ventured out and apologized out loud for taking them and whipped them back up where they belonged..
The rest of the week went fine and we learned a lot about the City.. On the way home, we were already talking about coming back..
Once we got home, I had a message on my answering machine.. It was the credit card company - someone had contacted them asking for my phone number.. The person wanted to let me know they had found my wallet.. I kid you not!! The credit card company would not release my info but instead took their info and let the person know they would pass it on to me..
I called the person and he told me how he came across my wallet.. He had gone to mass at St Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square and afterward, on his way to get a Hurricane - a popular drink there - he saw it on the ground by a trash can.. He had since mailed my wallet to the address on my ID..
Don't you know, a packaged arrived in the mail a couple days later.. There it was, all intact - everything was there, except the money.. The gentleman included a note saying he was sorry this happed.. He hoped this didn’t ruin my trip and deter me from coming to visit again.. He even included a coupon book for use on the next trip!!
I still have that wallet to this day!! It’s used as a little gris grid bag which is filled with little items collected on this and many other trips that followed and the stories to go with them.. 📿
an't say I've had any (in)tangible experience but with you in not automatically scoffing at those who say they have. Did once have the fright of my (maximum 10 year old) life outside an old very derelict cottage in woods once (usual thing - no windows, roof caved in etc) when a woman's face appeared at the small window of what would I guess have been the toilet. Ran faster than I ever did in school sports that day, but looking back she was probably assessing for a demolition company or something. Will never know. As with all these threads I'm quite often thinking about songs on the topic. Forget Japan, Specials etc - this was first to spring to mind lol
