IN 2015 I was on the tube going from central London to the Hammersmith Odeon (or whatever it is called now) to see Elbow with a mate. On gets Pete complete with suitcase and stand about 2 feet from me. Too good a chance to miss me thinks and I introduce myself and rabbit on about how great it is the band are back together, massive fan etc. Conscious Pete may be about to fall asleep I quickly thank him and move back to my mate. As he gets off he takes the time to say goodbye and I think what a top bloke. Queuing for a beer at the gig some guy starts up a conversation and I mention seeing Pete B from the BTRs on the way here. He replies that his mate owns a music shop and Pete had been in and purchased a bass in the last week and what a nice guy he is etc. What a small world I thought.
So, any other stories of bumping into a Rat when you least expected it?
I saw simon and johnny fingers in currys in leicester in ouctober 1984 i said hello looking forward to the gig tonight which was in loughborough they saidhi ya back johnny said i'll look out for you and at the show he spotted me and waved i know it was to me after the gig he gave me his hat
I’m very late to this thread, and I myself have not bumped into any Rats myself (though I wish I will be able to one day!) but I once saw a post from someone else saying that Bob blocked their view of a bookshelf in a bookshop once, and since the aisles were so tight they couldn’t squeeze past him!!! Idk why that’s so funny to me, but I honestly love mundane celebrity encounters
Yes. I bumped into Bob on stage. He wacked me (by mistake) with his tamborine on the forehead. I played on dazed and bloodied
Doesnt demote you at all. He’s Bob’s manager, or was. Jules
Great tales...but a question (and probably demotes me as a ‘fan’!!!) but who is Willo?
Perhaps not THAT unexpected. I was going to a BG solo gig. We were early, as usual and walked towards the venue and guess who was walking towards me? This was the first time I met him, back in 2003. I could not believe my eyes and stopped him and asked for a photo. I was very star struck, but he was extremely kind.
Another time, again perhaps not that random. I went to get a drink and snack at the airport and left my husband sitting down. As I was returning I looked over and saw an extremely tall vision standing over him chatting. My husband had spotted him passing by and called him over. Again it was following a gig.
ive bumped into Garry at the airport and sat in the same row (opposite) as him on the plane, following a gig and also bumped into Alan and Willo at the airport.
Again after a gig in Cork we were walking past a hotel and I looked down and saw Bob sitting down having a coffee with someone. I called over. He told me I looked dreadful as though I’d not slept. 😂. He was right, I don’t sleep well after gigs.
