I was just looking through the memories on FB on theBG page and found this mini review I’d written about the gig.
Belfast was exceptional. One of the best.
Last night’s audience was largely made up of locals, who had come out to see a big event on their doorstep. Many of them probably didn’t even know much about the Rats.
There was some initial reserve, but as the band belted out track after track with serious energy, enthusiasm and vigour, the vibe began to change. Soon they were swept away and it felt like the room was full of 1500 super fans having a ball with their much loved heroes. There was a definite connection and meeting of minds in this wonderfully intimate venue. The band was on fire and so was the crowd. What an experience.
We saw the reappearance of Joey, Diamond Smiles and No 1. What a night!
Jules, I was there as you know and can only agree….what a wonderful experience. I thought the band were on fire and left my wife on the edge of those dancing whilst I was back to 1978/80! The bond between the fans grew over the course of the gig and me and some guy ended up high 5ing each other because we both knew we had been at something special. Its why I still love em after 40 years!
