Bob, at a solo gig, said he doesn't like it. It was rushed out because the Rats needed another hit record.
Written about some girls who used to hang around the band in the early days it credits Bob Geldof Fingers and Kevin Sharkey as Co composers. Those girls included Janet Street Porter Mariella Frostrup and Paula Yates.
Well, I must disagree with Bob. In my opinion it's one of the best singles they have produced to date. it's fast and furious and very new wave. It's so 1970s but doesn't really date and is a stalwart on tours. A fans’favourite for sure and this was reflected in its chart position, the general British public and other nations enjoyed it too. She's So Modern has Mutt Lange’s signature written all over it in its production. Released in March 1978 from A Tonic For The Troops, it is from where the album took its title. It has never lost its appeal.
The intro draws you in with a bang and the tempo doesn't let up, loud and full of rattitude.
This track never dates, it’s so 21st Century… even after 44 years.
