While I was working on my previous post, I'd missed the hugely sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
I'm sure as Citizens of Boomtown, we have a wide spectrum of views on politics and the monarchy but Queen Elizabeth II was a towering figure on the world stage - United Kindgom's monarch for 70 years, globally rerspected and still actively involved in state affairs to the very end of her reign.
I don't expect the UK will ever see an individual quite like her again - today is a very sad and darkly momentous day.
As an American who fell in love with England when I was 10, I want to say how sad I am & I especially want to extend my sympathy to everyone on here who is from the United Kingdom, which (from what I can tell from way over here), seems like the majority. If it's surreal for me here in Nashville, I can only imagine how it feels for all of you and I'm so, so sorry. At mine & my Chihuahua, Elfie's, birthday party this year (we were both born on May 3rd & we always have a birthday cake with both of our names on it :) ), at some point we were talking about something regarding the royal family's history & my sister thought something I said was referencing a queen prior to Queen Elizabeth II, and I said, "Well, no ~ I mean *our* Queen." and then we both started laughing at how naturally I said that & without hesitation! It's just second nature to me. While I would never pretend to know exactly how everyone living in the UK feels right now, I do very greatly share in your sadness & I'll be watching, listening to, and reading about the coming days & weeks' events right along with you. Sending all of my Love,
