There is a nursery rhyme, here in the States, about a woman who lived in Fall River, Massachusetts between 1860 and 1927.. Her name was Lizzie Borden..
Lizzie lived in a home at 92 Second Street with her sister, Emma, her father, Andrew, and her step-mother, Abby..
On a summer day in August of 1892, Andrew and Abby were found murdered in the home.. Both died of injuries caused by.. you guessed it - an ax! Lizzie was ultimately arrested, tried, and acquitted of these crimes by a jury of 12 men..
After the trial, Lizzie bought a house of her own and continued to live in Fall River until she died..
Both houses still stand today and the house at 92 Second Street is actually a bed and breakfast where I had the pleasure of staying at for a night. I slept in the room where Abby was found murdered.. I know.. I know.. Cool, right?!
Now, let me tell you - it was an experience to be had!! We were able to tour the house and basement.. There were some strange little quirks that took place and some really bad feelings felt in one of the rooms but the best experience came when all the guests turned in for the night.. As we turned out the lights and settled in for a night‘s rest - for those that could sleep in a home like this - a classic thunderstorm rolled in!! Lightening flash and thunder shook the windows - Hollywood couldn’t have written a better script! I lay in bed with the covers drawn up to my chin and my eyes opened and as wide as saucers as I anticipated the silhouette of a women wielding an ex above her head to appear.. Alas, she did not..
Come morning, we gathered in the dinning room - where the bodies were once laid out - and feasted on the same breakfast the Bordens had that fateful morning.. Johnny Cakes - not a fan..
Anywho.. Should you fancy a read or want to see the place for yourself - unfortunately, my photos are packed away somewhere in storage - you can visit the official website - https://lizzie-borden.com/ ..
I do have one photo in my immediate possession.. That‘s me standing at the graves of Emma and Lizzie..
Oh, as for that nursery rhyme:
Lizzie Borden took an axe..
She gave her mother forty whacks..
After she saw what she had done..
She gave her father forty-one!
So Strange - indeed!
I’ve concluded after movie club suggestions and now this there’s a bit of a theme for you 😂. Consider yourself quiz winner without doubt. I can handle a few hornets. You take it up quite a few levels 🤣🤣. Nursery rhymes always amaze me as majority seem to be topics that would scare the bejaysus out of anybody older and wiser than your average 4 year old. Most of these have some kind of sinister origin or undertone 😳 https://londonist.com/2014/07/five-london-nursery-rhymes-actually-about-death-and-ruin
