After all the excitement of the Rats kicking off their 2024 Live Dates in Zagreb this past weekend, whether you were there or watching the great collection of videos on You Tube, I have something for you to spend some quiet time with. This is a great interview Bob Geldof granted to BBC 6 Music's First Time programme shortly after the 2010 release of "How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell".

In the above interview, Bob very descriptively remembers hearing Elvis for the first time:
"I was five or six years old, in Cork, one summer morning in a big room. I remember the smell of dust. Somebody put on an Elvis EP, and I particularly remember Teddy Bear and Don't Be Cruel."
Bob also poses an important question regarding the things we create when asked by the interviewer, Matt Everitt whether he thinks anyone will buy the album:
"I'd love it if they did. How does it live unless they hear it? It's the musical zen question: If you've written the greatest song in the history of rock and roll, and you put the guitar away, has it been written?"
My personal take on that is, if you create something and something about the process of creating it affects your life profoundly, that alone makes the creation very worthwhile ~ or simply if you loved creating it! Feeling happy is worth everything! But if you can get it out to the world ~ or even out to one other person ~ you can change one life or many lives forever. That's the power of music and every kind of art that exists ~ from writing to cooking. So, if you're making yourself something delicious for breakfast this morning, think of how much happier your day is already than if you grabbed a couple of pieces of burnt toast! I hope you'll enjoy this interview over breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or whatever quiet time you make for yourself.
