March Assignment
OK for your assignment this month you need to listen to the Rat's two most recent vinyl offerings (The Ratlife EP and the Trash Glam Baby single.... including the B side) and discuss the following:
Does the Ratlife EP sound more like Bob's solo stuff (consider the overall vibe, the vocal style, the mix etc) than the classic Rat's sound on TGB?
Had Bobby Boomtown not quite rediscovered himself on Ratlife?
Trash Glam Baby is a VAST improvement on Ratlife, IMO. It’s not exactly what I thought it was gonna be, but it’s a lot more memorable than the other tracks on Ratlife and it definitely sounds like the rats have rediscovered their groove
As for Ratlife itself? My fav track is Back To Boomtown, that‘s a very good song-the others though? They’re not terrible but they’re lacking in the creative department and sound quite repetitive. They sound more like jam sessions than actual songs (mainly Ratlife and Ratified)
Would not describe TGB as 'classic Rats style'. It's good but not the greatness I had hoped for. The b side No Tomorrow is a better song and much more like the Rats I've spend so many years listening to.
Ratlife is feeble and the worst thing they ever put out imho.
Definitely sounds like solo stuff to me. More mellow and lacks the Rat energy delivered by the Rats. I’m not sure TGB sounds THAT classic. It’s not like the solo stuff, but is rather more commercial, a little boppy and less raw. I still like it. The B side is more akin to the Rats we know and adore.
